Lansing- Community Veterans Memorial
The Community Veterans Memorial is a 6.5-acre park in Lansing, IL that has bronze and granite sculptures as well as life-size monuments reflecting the main military wars that defined the twentieth century. The monument offers a thoughtful and challenging picture of peace. The memorial pays the highest respect to all veterans, from the trenches of World War I through the Pacific beaches and European battlefields of World War II, the harsh weather and fighting conditions of Korea, the rocky harsh firefights of Vietnam, and the sandy sea of Desert Storm. A committee of local veterans came up with the idea for the Community Veterans Memorial. Since then, The Community Foundation, Inc., The Community Hospital’s parent corporation, has pushed the initiative. The Community Hospital gave the 6.5 acres of property, which is worth more than $800,000, and formed a philanthropic fund to assist in raising the $1.2 million required for development. This Memorial also features monuments from Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf.
